Title: Drums 'n' Stuff
Post by: Darfy on February 01, 2017, 11:20:14 PM
Hello guys,

For a long time I've been tempted to start uploading drum covers or just any drum cam videos on YouTube, but never had the suitable recording gear since you just can't record drums with a phone or a cheap microphone. Well now I've finally got myself some very decent gear and I'll be uploading stuff in the future every now and then!

Recorded a short improvisation today to try the new gear out..

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbwkgYR8kjc#)

Feel free to subscribe and any feedback is always appreciated!

Really nice drums, could you make a cover of moby dick by led zeppelin?

Wow impressive skills mate, really!

Indeed if you'd record some covers while the song plays in background, it would be awesome  8)

Thanks! Moby Dick is a brilliant piece, but it's mostly Bonham playing solo rather than an actual song. There are countless renditions of the song played in both studio and live by them, I wouldn't know where to start if I wanted to play it like Bonham does. As a matter of fact it would be impossible or at least silly to try to pull it off like he does, the amount of feel he brings and the personality in his drumming is what makes the song and to be honest I simply cannot imitate those. In theory I could study his drumming and so try to reach the same atmosphere the song has but I don't know if even then I could do the song any justice.. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll keep it in mind in case I ever feel like giving it a try! :)

Thank you dude, much appreciated ;)

Actually I've been jamming on a few Dream Theater songs recently, I could give one of them a go! Also if you'd like to see any particular song from them just throw it at me and I see what I can do :P Preferably not the stuff with Mangini though, as well as long songs like Octavarium or Change of Seasons since they're a pain in the ass to record :-\

with pleasure!
Then i'll suggest some of my favourite that first come in my mind, trying to avoid the most obvious:

Anyways, talking about DT i've just seen them live here in Rome.

Awesome concert! Everyone did his own solo (yes, even John Myung!), they inserted a cool excerpt of Enter Sandman in "As i am" and eventually there was a nice surprise at the encore (not gonna say it in case you're going to see them live in this tour) :D

Big thank bro we can make duo you paly flute :-*

I have Zoom H1 it's like portable stereo recorder hehe

Then i'll suggest some of my favourite that first come in my mind, trying to avoid the most obvious:
  • Lines in the sand (long one though)
  • One last time
  • Under a glass moon
  • 6 o'clock (this is probably interesting since the drums rhythm here stands out)
  • In the presence of enemies part 1 (maybe it's a bit long, i don't know)
  • Prophets of war
  • Erotomania
  • Ytse jam  ;D

I could start off with Erotomania, I think it's a remarkable song and quite challenging as well I must say.

Heh yeah I'm going to see them on 27th, can't wait. I've actually looked up the songs they've played so far on the tour and seems like Change of Seasons is the encore! And Images and Words as a whole just before that.. Oh boy :-*

cool, looking forward to it then!

Yeah, i got close the stage at the end of Images & Words, but then they started playing A Change of Seasons  :D
so we all stayed there and i was lucky enough to grab one of the plectrums that John Petrucci threws at us!  ;D  ;D
