I'm thinking of buying an Xbox 360, but I'm just wondering:

Do you have to be a Xbox Live Gold member to play online? If not, what is so good about gold?

i think you need a gold account to play via xbox online.

Xbox live requires you have a gold account to download the latest movies, game demos, game addons and more. It also allows you to play online with your friends. With a silver account (what you have if you don't have gold) you cannot get the latest demos and other things as you will need to wait till they are released into the silver market. Gold is really worth it.
