how come the stats are offline often? Are there regular problems?
-
I've found that the stats are most often offline for one of two reason. Note, I said most often, not always. There can of course be other reasons for the stats being down. Anyway, the two reasons are:
- DNS problems occurring in the virtual machine running our lovely Echo bot, which presumably would cause it to not be able to contact the mtastats website and thus stats would be down in-game. This leaves in-game stats offline (but everything else working, including the mtastats web site) until the virtual machine is restarted and/or the DNS problem fixed manually. Unfortunately getting the bot restarted isn't always easy, so stats can remain offline for a long time, recently more than a day.
- More rarely it happens that the (virtual) server running mtastats is completely down, which of course means that the mtastats website is also down. Some times this has been because the server was under attack(!) but some times computers just fail, as many of you probably know all about.
Note: Changed the topic of this thread to reflect what it's about.
Edit: Corrected the explanation.

Just to get technical, the servers hosting all of this are very rarely down.
What happens is a problem with the virtual XP machines. Sometimes the DNS breaks (this is the most common cause) and sometimes the whole virtual .. thing just decides to break down for the hell of it.

raz0 and Alpha are right, most of the time the stats were down because of problems with virtual machines, but these problems are now (hopefully) fixed.
The stats are currently down because there still is a problem with the hosting, even though the main mtaStats website is up. Woet from serverffs.com is hosting the site, and he is looking into it as we speak.
