Here is a genesis of my idea, you don't have to read it, if u are bored just scroll the page down to the things in bold.
About an hour ago, when I was playing on LW's, I took 1,5kk from bank to buy props. About 30 secs later someone noticed that Ive got some cash and I recieved a pm "hey man, can u gimme some money?". My first answer was something like "fuck off, earn it!", but then I had an inspiration :D I reminded myself the post of Roach of someone, saying that we should help new ppl instead of increasing stats on them. Ive pmed that guy that ill give him my first benefit from the props im going to buy, and Ill teach him how to buy props. However he left the server before Ive recieved the money, due to him I had a real inspiration, much more original than the first one. Instead of giving the new players 50k for register, as someone suggested before, it would be much better for everyone if we make it profittable for regulars to help newbies :D
A summary of the changes that you want
Here is how I see it. A new player after registering will be able to choose a... hmm... teacher? master? guide? Nvm how u call it, I mean a regular player who will help him to start. Newbie would be able to have only one teacher. Regulars will be able to see if someone is a newbie (by colour or something) so that they can offer him to become his teacher. If newbie accept him to be his teacher, regular will have to pay 50k, 100k (dunno, maybe the more u give, the more time it lasts for) to the newbie (not by /givecash, but some other command, which will make him become teacher). The newbie can use the money however he wants. So why is it a teacher, not just a sponsor? Cuz if he will teach the newbie how to play, it'll be more profitable for him. For example, for every 50kills of the newbie, teacher will recieve a bonus - money or something from the bonus shop (chainsaw, turtle and all that staff) or maybe donator status for a week (or something cool from 3,0, maybe a spawn car or house, dunno). Of course if newbie kills his teacher it will be -1 kill or something to prevent ppl from abusing. The teacher could also recieve bonus for 50 hours of playtime of his pupil, every earned 1kk, good killrate etc. The newbie would be available to have only one teacher, but the the teacher can have infinite ammount of newbies under his wings (we want regulars to help the bigger ammount of players, right?)
The advantages of this change happening
- It will add a new, interesting element to the gameplay
- It will make regulars help new ppl
- It will keep new ppl by the game for longer
- It's much better than just giving more spawn cash or weps for newbies, cuz it is profitable for both, regulars and newbies
- It will make ppl not only help newbies to get money, but to explain everything about the gameplay (cuz the better they train they're pupils the bigger will be the chance that they will be good, and teachers would recieve bonus for this)
Im sure I could think about some more, but theese are the main advantages.
The disadvantages of this change happening
- If regulars would not like to use this feature, the newbies will still have hard start
- New players can still run from the server in the first day of they play, cuz they will not find anyone to help them so quickly and everyone will own them like it is happenning now.
Any script snippets which provide the feature that you want
What do you think about this idea?

Wonderful

I'd say it's too complicated.
Who for one decides that someone is capable of being such a 'teacher'?
If you're going to depend on the time that the teacher has spent on the server it's already full of leaks, in my opinion.
Why? Because there are plenty of players out there that regardless of their playingtime ain't all that.
Kill/death ratio, same story (though it gives a small indication).
Also I think that if someone wants to 'help' an other he/she will do that when that person feels like.
When one gets paid, surely more people will help but I doubt the quality would be as good as one that does it from heart.
(from heart? SAMP? ye, serious business I know)
As for new players 'running' from the server because they're not being helped/'pros' owning them..
It's sad if it happens massively (from the 'pros' side I mean), but on the other hand everyone started out from zero and if you're going to quit that fast instead of taking your time to figure shit out, it's a bit weak on the side of new players as well imo.
The idea of helping new players, cool.
The concept you made for it, bit complicated.
-
I think that will be to confusing for the noobs but good idea.

I've been playing littlewhiteys for 5 years.. Who's my "master"?
Becuse i still suck. =P
-
Wallie, u are a bit right, it won't be as good as helping from heart. But how many ppl on LW today help from heart? When they see a new nickname they just shoot. When it'll be profitable for them, they'll at least give this 50 or 100k to the newbie.
Who is capable for being teacher? Everyone. Everyone, who has got enough money to pay to the newbie. It depends only on the newbie if he will accept another or he will accept someone who knows how to play. Nvm - in my opinion it's still better than giving more weps or cash for spawn, as it was suggested.
-
So we give the newbie 100k of our cash, then kill the newbie, get our cash back, then sod off and benefit every time he gets a kill.

Well, i think that it's to good for newbie, but it keeps more players in LW. +0.1 for this idea.

n1 toni nub
something like this was enabled on gtat and got abused like hell
-1 let the nubs learn and earn alone

It's a great idea, but it's too complicated, what about just make a chatchannel for noobteaching? And then they'll maybe get some help through chatting and duelling with other players there.
If a noob joins the channel, also a scripted talkingbot could say from time to time like "Remember to run in zigzag moves in fights!" etc..
And then they can type like /fighthelp ; which makes a bot start, the one who type the command, can spec the bot, while the bot explains C-bug, Switching, Zigzag moves etc.
I actually think i could script this one for you.
-
Well, when i started this game my master was Scott...xD.He showed me whole server with his heli,so it would be nice to help newbies

O really, youve been playing for 5 years? Wow, i didnt know that you played GTA SA even before it got released on the PC, not even talking about SA-MP.

Dont know when sa-mp was first released but san andreas was out for the pc in 2005, ie. 5 years ago.

So we give the newbie 100k of our cash, then kill the newbie, get our cash back, then sod off and benefit every time he gets a kill.
It's not difficult to prevent from this. Teacher should be punished for killing his pupil - loosing cash from bank or just loosing the pupil. Or both. But I think that there should be loosing cash from bank and opportunity for pupil to end the teamwork immediately.
Fuse, u say it's too complicated. Maybe, but it's still helpful. If there are better ways to reach my target, post it here. Newbie chat channel? Maybe it's a good idea, but I just don't see it working. Where would it appear? Remember, that nobody wants virtual worlds in a DM. But I like the idea about /fighttips or something like this.
And Bandic, I don't see how could we abuse this. I mean, there are many ways, but it's really easy to prevent from them. And if you really think that we should leave newbies alone, as it is now, and there is no need to help them get started, then there is no need for such a system. But I think it's a bit too hard for new players now.
-
Not worth scripters' time. If someone wants to help a newbie, he/she can do it without cmd's.
-
Course he/she can. But he/she usually does not :P The target of this system is not to give regulars opportunity to help, cause they have it all the time. The target is to make it easier for new players to get to know with the server features and make them stay with us for a long time, by forcing more ppl to help them. I don't care why regulars would want to help new players, it's just better for the server if they will. That's my opinion.
Maybe you are right. Maybe it's too complicated, not worth scripters time. Maybe we could just make a vote or something once a month for the best helper, and the winners would gain some prizes. But how to make something like this when most of the newbies don't visit the forum? I don't know, that was just my idea to increase ammount of regular players by showing newbies reasons to stay.
-
How about this, maybe there should be a command like /newbie - /needcash or whatever, then it marks the newbie who wrote this with a different color, then if the regulars wants to pay them some money, they're free to do it.
-
Nice idea but it's quite a lot of work for something that may not get used often. I have been thinking about a script-based tutorial for 3.0, one that takes you through the gamemodes hotspots and gives prompts about what they are.
We could make a /newbies command or something for the current gamemode which will list people who have played for less than X hours allowing you to offer your teaching services out of the "kindness of your heart".

Would be a good idea with that command.

It's not necessary to make a special system for this. Helping newbies is something you should do because you care about the server, not because you want to get rewarded for it. The best reward is that these people will come back when you help them, who cares about money anyway. I agree that newbies care about money, but it's something that's really easy to obtain, and why not help them for free? I do it always this way, and these people still play in this server.

Dont know when sa-mp was first released but san andreas was out for the pc in 2005, ie. 5 years ago.
Beta released in 2006, I started playing on LW at the end of 2006 and I can't remember Enkei..
But its a pretty good idea +1..

First samp beta was in 2006 and it (GTA SA) was out for pc in summer 2005, not winter.
-
Lol I understand enki's mistake. When I was in MW ive told someone I had been in it for about two years, when the clan havent existed even for 1,5 year then. But i think that is good - that means Im not a nerd, I don't care so much about a game :P
-
i think that woud be nice for new players
so they wont just like join the server getting owned and rage/q
i think the player amout woud be increased :)
and that woud be very nice for us bcause we had more
to PWN !!! ;D

I started playing SA-MP very shortly after its release. I've been playing it for 4-5 years my friend. Back when the admins were adamcs, dugi, and LnX. Now i never see them anymore. Back when there were no banks, races, gangs, or anything. All there was, was the pirate ship. And i hated starting with only a deagle, so i mostly played on the partyserver. But my point is, learn your material before you try to badmouth somebody. Because that was a poor attempt.
Why is everybody so anxious to be better than someone else? Sheesh.

good idea but it just seems way to complicated to implement, so i vote no. sorry :-[ :o

If a newbie is marked with a different color, many "pros" will know they have an easy target to kill.
-
OR, a pro does newbiecommand and the lamer gets OWNED 8)

I'm sorry to break ur daydream but u're the one who should check ur facts. Sa-mp's first public beta was in April 2006 and 0.1b was released in May 2006 if I remember right so if u have any ability to count numbers u can see that it's not even been a full 4 years from that. You'll have to wait a few months b4 u can even say u've played a full 4 years on lw's. Thank you.
