Title: Ping issues.
Post by: Abnormal on February 19, 2010, 07:24:11 AM
Basically my ping has started jumping from its usual 160'ish ping, into the 200's, 300's, 400's, etc

It only spikes for a second and goes back into the 100s for about another second, and then it will spike, and it has been doing this ever since I installed windows 7.

I had downloaded a windowed mode mod, that I installed and I used it, and when i was using it, my ping never jumped. It stayed in my normal 160 range, 140-160

However I noticed that I only get 45 fps while I am in windowed mode, opposed to my 80 while I am in fullscreen. So I switched back. And as soon as I switched back, my ping started spiking again.

Virus? Spyware?

I've already scanned with Avira, and search and destroy, and nothing was found.

if it is caused by some program which is slowing your internet without asking then you could find it with netlimiter (google it and download the "Pro" version) and kill/block the process foreveeeer.

btw since 0.3 you dont need mods for window mode. you can just use alt+enter to jump to window mode whenever you want.

Dail up lol, is there actually a LW regular who still uses that shit?

And @ Abnormal, 45 is quite a perfect fps-rate, since with a fps rate above 47/48 you cant strafe with the deagle..maybe its fixed in 0.3 but it was like this in 0.2x

I don't warp. Warps effect both players, and I haven't noticed anybody warping. So my question to you is, who the fuck are you and why are you in my thread?

Why would it slow down your internet? All it does is using 24MB of RAM, which isnt much at all to care about.

wut? why dont u install a program to open a program that opens your programs?

"rthdcpl.exe is a process belonging to the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel and is bundled alongside Realtek sound cards and audio hardware. "This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems"

Alright, my ping is fixed thanks to someone named Leat from LVP.  Basically it was a Windows 7 process that sent bits of data every couple seconds for who knows what reason, he said something about a media program, media player or some shit.

It was fixed by going into Regedit, and finding the network throttling file, and editing the value to 0. After restarting the lag spikes were completely gone.

Why this data was only being sent while a fullscreen app was running is also strange, but thats how it worked.
