given all the people who abuse having the capability of padding their stats, I don't see why people wouldn't abuse teleport commands that they should be using for events. Maybe admins could have a /minimod command where they could make someone a temp mod with those capabilities of organizing minievents. If he were to abuse it in that little bit of time then ban.
So that's the idea basically, I know some servers have it but I don't know how it works there. What if admins (not just management) could give temp moderator status to a player that is in-game, and when the player logs out he loses this status.
Suggestions:
- There could be a separate colour chat for admins to see of all the things that the temp mod is doing ingame.
- There should be a separate channel on IRC for admins to see the things the mod is doing ingame. (the previous two would be so admins could have an extra eye on these people).
- There could even be a channel on IRC for players to see what these mods do, so they could prove abuse in case admins are not around.
- The mod would lose his mod status if he logs out.
- There could be a cmd displaying how long this temp mod has been temporarily promoted.
- And this temp mod would not be able to pause or remain idle for over 10-15 minutes whether or not he/she is in a safe zone. This would prevent the possibility of temp mods leaving their pc on over night or something in order to keep their status.
- If a temp mod were to abuse his cmds in some way, he or she would be banned as soon as possible.

In some ways it would be useful, but I voted no. We have quite a few active admins/mods playing at the moment.

yea but there's always that time at night, where nobody is on, also this could be a way to put those mods you choose to a test.

Then why dont you make other ppl mod? i mean, if your "admin roster" or staff is getting old, why dont you start getting new staff members?
-
this would be interesting but u would have to rlly trust a player and they would of played fair and not broken any rules or even been banned for quite awhile i like it +1 it should help keep chiters out when no admins or on or even rule breakers
-
Lol we have many players which take care of the server even if admin is not there.u can believe them.Anyhow +1

Alvar seriously do you really? and why when I go in the morning, sometimes 4 -5 are each encoded to play for 3 hours without taking money, breaking their codes input server and nobody do anything?
Do too many admins? then why you are not doing their job? I vote YES

If you want someone to moderate the server whilst admins are not online then this is not needed. There will be no real admin to keep an eye over them. If the player is trusted enough to be left alone as a temporary mod, then they may as well be made into moderators and they will be.

lets wait for the event system

This is true, but if there were a temp mod system then you could test people for this status instead of how it's done now, and you may be surprised sometimes for better or for worse.

Hazard we need more mods then.
mods can be easily selected by This is true, but if there were a temp mod system then you could test people for this status instead of how it's done now, and you may be surprised sometimes for better or for worse.

They can still be tested by making them moderator the normal way. If it doesn't work out then it's easy enough for them to be downgraded ingame or by doing a simple database query if they leave the game.
You should know that levels are set after an administrator discussion, some admin may promote someone because they've seen the good side of them, but their may be a dark and nasty side or just a personal difference in the team which is why discussion happens and why only management can set levels.
If you want more mods then it's management that needs a poke. Not the script.

Fair enough

You both have fair points. I agree that a mod power is too big to be given to someone just because one admin thinks that he is ok. But if temp mods wouldn't have the ability to punish ppl, only to tp and maybe mut and fix cars, then I think that it wouldn't be abused (even if it is, ppl cant suffer much from it).

This idea is working out on LVP pretty good.
@Hazard: I guess if you have shown someone who is trusted enough at LWs by giving him temp mod, I guess he wouldn't show a dark side, even if he has one.
-
I say yes it is easy to make a survey and stay online to watch who takes care of the server so the moderator to get promotion to pursue a while and through voting by admin decides the moderator or who receives ;)
-
In my opinion, Simon said it pretty clearly, that this is not going to happen.

In this way(what you do right now) you are only going to make your e-friends admins or mods or w/e, you wont give a chance to ppl that is not your e-friend or something, thats just wrong, if the player is good enough, has played for a while, and follow all the rules, then why dont giving him a chance?, you dont give mod to any1 since ermm ? may? thats quite a lot, and there are no new admins or mods, we look the same ppl, and it gets boring, every1 might have their own way to give lw's some fun, ( events, special races, be active to ban cheaters, etc) and i dont see this for a while ( 3 months?)

Please simply give the ability of tp to someone and check them.
