When I installed it like a hmm, year or 2 ago everything was fine (even thought the instalation is stupid as fuck), but now I installed it again (my dad wanted to play it) and I can fuckin launch it. The game is original, so it should work fine. I've got the same hardware I've had 2 years ago when I played it. I had windows vista back then (or xp? Nah, I think it was already vista) and now I have windows 7, 64bit.
I installed it and it looked fine, but when I want to launch it, nothing happens. Only the program which checks if the game has already been released pops up, and then nothing. I've tried compatibility modes and stuff. Already reinstalled it. I somehow managed to log into the Social Club, but when I press that fuckin big button "PLAY", it won't work. Have you ever heard of this? :D
Oh, the pc is 100% clear now, I've deleted everything a few days ago and it runs so awesomely like a brand new one. Samp and AC:Brotherhood works perfectly, haven't installed anything else yet. I would be really grateful for your help :P

DirectX and Net framework updated?
the game simply not starting usually means that some software thingy is missing.
if the GTA IV copyright bullshit thought, that you are doing something illegal then it would say so and not simply say nothing.
are you trying to start it in online or offline mode?

Dunno in which mode. I have direct x, haven't installed the net framework though. I will try it, thanks. Ye I also think that the copyright thing has nothing to do with this, it just scans and disappears, I guess its the game what should start after it but it doesn't, so nothing happens. I will try that net framework thingy.

I dont remember it right cuzz I dont haz my PC and my GTA4 atm, but was there any updater? Or something? Or something like rockstar.com stuff? Or like.. did you run it from SOCIAL thingy? Or like lunch it as admen? I know its stupid of me saying that, but it can happen. :P
If its an original disc the one you have you should contact ROCKSTARs, not asking here and getting some illegal cracks, thats also illegal I guess.. ::)

the game looks AWESOME and the map is AWESOME and everything but the gameplay is just awful. awful handling, awful wishy-washy controls and really really limited possibilities.
you cant even surf a fucking car, you cant even drive up a fucking stairs with your fucking vehicle, cars need 2000 fucking feet to brake, cars flip over just because you hit the fucking curb when you tried to drift around a curve......

I like the story-line in GTA:IV but as far as gameplay goes it's pretty sucky compared to san andreas. thing is we're comparing to games like vc or sa which are absolutely amazing, and they make IV look like crap :P

just look at GTA SA! you have everything! tanks! hydras! miniguns! jetpacks! trainable weapon skills! casinos! bicycles! all the shit that you need!
and all you can do in GTA IV is fucking driving around with some retarded vehicle and shooting stupid people with the same fucking weapons over and over again! thats all! in every single mission! oh jesus just why did i buy it..

I get it, i bought it for 50 euro, and sold it for 10 euro's 2 days later, piece of shit it told me I had a cracked version when I fucking bought it, nothing worked motherfucking securom.
The first day it worked, and i played a few missions and came to the conclusion, that GTA SA is better on so many levels.

finally someone who likes the story-line too! :-) ... it is really good! I also like how the episdodes and gtaIV get together...
I even like the gameplay and the gfx... best game i ve ever played.
Back to topic:
With the steam version, I got no problem at all. With the dvd version, I had some problems, but they were just with the ports. xbox no problems.
But I hate secure rom, I remember long time ago, I bought a complete pc (which i will never do again) and I got far cry for free (it was new)
first thing i did was installing far cry, which did not run. Tried everything and thought the pc is broken, than i tried the crack and it worked. fuck secure rom!

You should try modding the damn thing! Need about 10 programs to get around the file checking that gta does and then u cant play it on-line!
I liked the story line (one of the better gta stories imo)...i think that was all i liked. Cars handled like "a fat baby stuck to the steering wheel, the helicopters like your lifting a hippopotamus on a merry go around and the bikes are a problem as no one in gta holds on to the handles due to fear of catching crotch rot!"
Also, gta:iv was made to be "realistic" (cars, handling, no seatbelt = fly form your car, etc") BUT if i wanted realism i have the world. I wanted a game to allow me to escape reality for a couple of hours! Not to go into a different reality that's worse!
I think thats all + complaints of others = one crap game! If you can modify it get the cops v robbers mod - allows you to be police and then add a snow mod. Much more fun (mainly cus you and no one else can brake in time for anything!)

Its realistic enough to be honest. Compare it to GTA SA and its really realistic. Theres so many unrealistic things about any GTA game that GTA IV is one of the most realistic ones though.
The next GTA will be better. Just like how it went from GTA 3 towards GTA vice city and San Andreas. GTA IV is just a tester on the new engine like how GTA 3 was.
Ontopic:
Try contacting Rockstargames if you got problems with your copy of the game (if its a legit version ofcourse) Otherwise see if you can find some crack for it. If its a steam version dont mess with it but contact steam.
P.S:

If it comes to the game: securom sucks so much that its easier to pirate the game than to install it from the fuckin cd. That thousands of upgrades it downloads before it allows you to play is annoying too. The gameplay: shooting is surely much more realistic, and I liked it. It's not how weapons worked in SA and others, but it's good. I also loved running in a car from the police, throwing granades through the window ftw. The handling sucks, but I also liked one thing about it: you can drive forward fuckin fast, turn your car 180 degrees backwards and continue driving backwards and then repeat it to go forward. I loved doing this, its not possible in SA. But bikes in GTA IV is fuckin useless, you can't drive it fast cause it will kill you. The graphics are very good but sometimes things appear too late, I think it's because the game wasn't designed for PCs...

Played through both endings. Get roman killed, so he stops f*****g calling! :D
I got orginal dvd version and steam version (i lost the dvd then found it after i brought it on steam...oh well i got it cheap with the other LC episodes).
Game was not designed for pc's and was a very bad optimisation port from console's - most xbox games (for a pc port) will require a good (mid-range) duel core to play the game well on pc (remember x-box are low/mid tri-core if i remember right).
Problem with gta:iv is poor optimisation and a unheard of belief that everyone will upgrade to quad soon for games - the recommended settings require a good quad core...Shame as a good optimisation would have made this game a legend in some respects and if R* had allowed people to mod the files then it would have done well for that alone.

Strangely, i found TBOGT a slightly better game than gta:iv - not as long but somehow better :s Perhaps the new weapons or just the fact the story was "tighter" made it better for me...

TBOGT is better cuz it's party hard ;D the weps, the story, the new cars it contains, absolutely awesome.
Also i thought it had some graphics enhancements, anyways it had more possibilities then the normal GTA IV.
Anyways the first computer game i know where you can get drunk until you pass out and wake up hours later somewhere in the park without having the slightest idea how u got there ;D
Adding the clubs and the airhockey really made the game :D

all the sport cars are awesome and the shotgun with explosive shit is just SOOOOOOOO overpowered. you can take down helis with the fucking shotgun with 2 shots xD
also raping other people in multiplayer with it is very funny. they all cry:))))))
the lost and the damned has AWESOME bikes but the new music and the awful darkish colour setting is annoying.
