Title: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Officially starts Monday!)
Post by: HardyHar on June 09, 2009, 01:49:52 AM
Hey! I've been throwing around this idea of music competitions.
Would you wanna compete?
The rules are kinda shady at the moment but this would get me active enough with my music.

The idea is to make a mix of a song within a months time period. The song is chosen through the opponents one month one competitor will have a song of choice next month the other person will have the song of choice and you make your own original mix with either the Vocals or the Instrumentals of that particular song. You can use any additional software but the method has to be your own...
The Reward will be in LW's currency.  (2,500,000) Winner takes all type of deal.

This will give people a chance to discover music and make $ Ingame.

(FL Demo users are not excluded.)
To Save: Write the beat from Channels to Playlist as Pattern 1 ect. then File>Export>MP3
To Re-Open: Right click in Channels click Insert>Audio clip then click it and drag the sound wave in Playlist where you can fit it into the rest of the song.

Slots:
#1. SUPERBAD
#2. wWII
#3. HardyHar
#4. AbnormalFace (May be removed if I don't hear from him by Sat.)
#5. RedFusion
#6. Faraday
#7. -open-
 *Sign ups end Saturday.*

From now on you have to fill out a card to compete:
(So we'd know what to expect.)

Name:
Music Genre:
Experience/Years:

By years I mean how many years have you been using music software. (No not iTunes.)

Event Starts next Monday!
Competitors read:
So that gives us some time to find out which song we are going to be mixing / editing.
During the rest of this week you (the competitors) will need to have a song of Choice.
On Saturday / Sunday we vote for which song will be mixed and On the First of November all submissions are due. If it goes well there may be a next one proceeding this one in November.

Songs to vote on: (Competitors post up some more of a selection.)
-Lover boy - Turn me loose (Requested by SUPERBAD) pg.2
-We have all the time in the world - Louis Armstrong (Requested by SUPERBAD) pg.3
-I'll be there - Michael Jackson (Requested by HardyHar) pg.3
-Tight Pants Rap - Ninjasonik (Requested by HardyHar) pg.3
-Negitive thinking about Tight Pants (Requested by HardyHar) pg.3

Where I get lost is when it comes to saving audio for others to hear.
Can anyone post a tut on that?

I am up for this!

Thanks DarkZomb!
But I mean saving it to the internet so others can hear and rate them.

Some tut's for peeps.
BTW: Audacity is free, get it and learn these. (I'm learning this too.)

I found this vid to keep Vocals only but I'm having trouble finding it now.
I'll post it up when I do find it.

Does it need to be FL? I have other programs, which I'm more used to use.. :/
And I would love to compete!
Title: Re: Who here has FL Studio?
Post by: HardyHar on June 09, 2009, 09:06:35 AM
Nah, I guess anyone can compete using whatever software they use.
Not everyone uses FL Studio.

This is just simply getting er' asking if this is ok to do.
Same rules apply though...

Anyone want to help with setting up the rules n' stuff?
Are the prices too high? Should I lower them?

As a suggestion, maybe you guys should bet money, like each 500k or w/e and the winner gets the total. The more participants the more interesting it gets.
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: Sp4zlord on June 09, 2009, 10:06:05 AM
some people who join in the event might be placing an already remixed music and that would screw up the event but who would do that?
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: Faraday on June 09, 2009, 10:53:24 AM
maybe I can provide vocal tracks, so everyone can use the same tracks?

EDIT: do you mean like a remix of a song (vocal tracks & making new music) or a plain mix of different tracks (recorded song?)

2mil on faraday.
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: HardyHar on June 09, 2009, 07:35:32 PM
@Scott: That's what's already established.
500K as an entry fee winner takes all.
But I'm wondering if that is too high of an entrance fee?

@Spaz: Eh I doubt it. I will have the competitors search for remixed versions. Worst case, we would have the person show how they did the mix if it is necessary. I'm sure we all have FRAPS here I wonder if you can record using that. If not there are screenshots that can be made.

@faraday: Soo, you know how to extract vocals / ect. out of any MP3 using Audacity?
o.o - I don't use Audacity but I wanna learn that. I'm gonna Re-Download it just to learn that.

Oh I just read the edit... I was going for the vocals ect. from another song, I've found lots of vocals from artist on youtube. This is more like making a REMIX of it rather than mixing and fitting tracks into one another.
I would say it's ok to mix but you still need something original of your own that you did towards the final mix of the song.

@Slice: Bet's? lol
Ohh there goes my confidence level. ._.
Nah, I'm gonna give it my all. Time for the Underdog to show what he is made of.
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: Faraday on June 09, 2009, 07:39:25 PM
Audacity? Never heard of it :p

No I mean I can get hold of recorded audio tracks (through school or sth) which we can use in whatever way we like...
Like that remix I made, which I posted here somewhere. That was the exact same thing as you suggested..
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: HardyHar on June 09, 2009, 08:21:47 PM
There is tut's at the top on using Audacity now.
I need to go to school now but when I come back I'll look for the Removing Instrumentals so the only thing that's audible is the vocals. There is a process where you block out the instrument's with two of the same MP3's one of the instrument and one of the Full song.
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: SUPERBAD on June 10, 2009, 12:23:01 PM
I usually look for acapellas, they are often on the single/maxi records.

Interesting concept you got there, I'd be in if the circumstances would allow me, guess I'll pass for now..

One thing, who's gonna judge? As in, decide which participant has the best mix since that seems pretty important.
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition. (Making Slots)
Post by: HardyHar on June 10, 2009, 09:20:12 PM
For the most part I was gonna start polls.
But an official set of Judges would be nice.

(wWII? Making music?)

Sounds interesting.
If there is anyone to blame for me trying to get used to FL Studio (once again!), it's got to be you HardyHar. I'll let you know when I succesfully acquired the basics for once (and find proper VST-plugins.. or maybe I just have gotten a bad version of FL last time I tried).

No pressure but I think I'm gonna close slot's on Sunday of this week.

Besides I'll do the worst. =)

Well, music isn't decided yet so... No one else really knows either.
If you want you can take the last slot since I don't really think anyone else will.

As for the first song to mix... That's all up to SUPERBAD since he is first in line.
From there I'll have to search for vocals to give out. If I can find them.
Unless he can supply them.
or
I can leave it up to the competitors.
We will see depending on what he picks...

And from now on...
You have to fill out a card:

So I can choose a song, no matter which one? And you bring me the vocals of it?
For a remix it would be cool to get the accapella and the instrumental version, best would be if we got different audio layers, like bass, guitar, drums, etc)

If you got a song you want to do, choose it, Hardy!

If you really want me to choose a song to remix, no matter which one, I would say:

Loverboy - Turn me loose

Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition.
Post by: HardyHar on June 22, 2009, 06:29:01 PM
Yeah, since your first in line.
And since Faraday quit.
So you get to choose the song. (Loverboy - Turn Me Loose.)

I'll try to look up the vocals and instrumentals of that song.
If not I'll have to learn to extract vocals that way.
(If I have to do this manually then the file won't be 100% clean you may have some lingering beat's, but when you remix it you should not hear anything.)
One thing I have to point out on what you just said, I don't think it's possible to extract singles of the instruments. Ex. just the bass / drums / ect.
What you could do is... write it as a Audio file in FL Studio and find a moment of the song where it's only one instrument and work from there.

You use FL Studio don't you?

*Modified.*
Okay I've finally found the tutorial on how to extract Vocals from a song.
I'm sure you can do it in FL Studio. (That's what I'm gonna try.)
But, the problem is that you need an exact replica of the instrumentals. (Where do I find that?! Hahaha.)
There are things on the internet that say you can make instrumentals of a song.... so now I'm kinda going around in circles...
(Sigh! I've got soooo much homework too... Luckily I am ahead on my work but, this is insane.)
Lmao! Faraday! You nub! Don't quit... I'm not... besides this is a monthly event.
You work on your own time. But I'll drop you if you really want me too.

ARGH! And my last problem is... when I do extract the Vocals / Instruments how do I send it to you?
(Should have thought about that... but at least I know it's possible to do.)
E gads what about sending the final mix? Youtube er' what?
Well... wish me luck... and hope my brain does not explode.
(Soo much has been going on lately.)

Oh by the way...
Here is the video tutorial to extract the vocals:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bzGvfRGRQo&feature=fvw# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bzGvfRGRQo&feature=fvw#)
(You can try it if you want... it'll save me some trouble.)

AND WWII your one of my official judges.
So get ready. =)
Lurk around here more often.
or
Help me out... er' something...
Just try to find some nice tutorials, that would be great help.
(Possibly related to my issues. Not IRL thank you.)

OMG! my mind is traveling at light speed. (Headache.)
Ok, I'm off to finish homework now... Sometime this week I'll be done with this mess up here. ^^^
So, yeah! What ever.

Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition.
Post by: SUPERBAD on June 23, 2009, 01:06:16 PM
maybe we should look for another song, maybe we should begin with a electro song which got no vocals?
Would make it easier for the first try.

Or we look for instrumentals and acapella files of a single song. Sometimes they are on a single/maxi of a song.

Uploading, we could make a password on a rar file and upload it on rapidshare or so. When we got to share our final work, we could use that too
Title: Re: LW's Monthly Music Competition.
Post by: HardyHar on June 23, 2009, 08:20:56 PM
The only problem is that I don't have a Rapid Share account.
You can upload with the free account can't you?

If not I'll find a way...

About the music, It's you decision...
I could do it, but it's gonna take me some time for Loverboy.
But this is all up to you.

SUPERBAD I really want to do this event but there is too much shit going on.
I don't feel like stopping it but I don't know when I'll find the time to work on it.
I have ton's of things to do.
Like finish school. (Should have graduated on time but now I have to graduate in Summer School. Sucks.)
Get a license. (I have a car I could drive but I need a license first.)
Get a job so I can buy these. vvv
http://www.ns7controller.com/ (http://www.ns7controller.com/)
and
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8662-built-clevo-m860tu-custom-gaming-laptop-p-2564.html (http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8662-built-clevo-m860tu-custom-gaming-laptop-p-2564.html)

Then what ever life throw's at me... like my grandfather getting hit in the head with a vase by some crazy crack head woman. Thus making me spend the night in Compton. =/
That was fun. Cleaning up blood splatters. We were gonna stay down there for the night in an RV but the tires blew out on the freeway. So we ended up staying in my grandfathers house.
Explains why I wasn't in game.
But in time I'll find a way to do this event. (If I'm not bike riding.)
How about we find just some vocals and mix em'? Hahaha.
I'd use Playlist.com for them or Jamglue. IDK what song you'd find.
But then we could get the URL and download em that way.

Meh, I wouldn't say dead... I don't want it to die. I want to wait for more people before I start it.
By all means if people are ready then don't keep em waiting even if I don't participate.

I love Beat Making but when ever I go on the computer it seems that it is the last thing I do.
So in turn it gets put off. If people are still serious about this then I'll run it.

I thought we were doing dance. I don't know much about hip-hop (or for that matter about dance) but I prefer dance/techno/pop vocal tracks, in that way we can do more. Because this is just a one way street, you know.
