Lag on my pc but not on my laptop
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:32:16 AM »
Okay, this is a problem I've had for a long time but never done anything about it. Now I'm tired of it.

This is my desktop PC:

- AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor 2.30 GHz
- 4 GB Kingston Ram
- NVidia GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB Ram
- EarthWatts 550W Power Supply
- 2 x 7200 Rpm HDD's
- Realtek PCI Ethernet Adapter

My Laptop:
Apple Macbook Pro:
- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
- 4 GB Kingston Ram
- Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

I can't seem to figure out why I experience lag on my desktop PC while playing Team Fortress 2, GTA:SA, Left 4 Dead (2), and I don't have this issue on my laptop.

Is there anyone who knows why this is happening and what could be the source? And how maybe to fix it?

Well thats probably your video-card then.
Did you replace it in your desktop?

After I did my GTA:SA started to lag randomly, possibly because my PC cant really handle it.
I went from a NVidea 8400 to a 240GT, no problems with other games.

This is what I've found out with my own PC, not sure if this goes for you too.

@freak - laptop processors/gfx cards are not as good or made to play games (unless its a specific games laptop) so games will normally lag on a laptop unless it is a brand new laptop and an old old game.

@Faraday:
hmm strange - have you tried updating graphics card drivers?
Updating direct X?
You do mean FPS lag (as opposed to "im lagging in game and i can not hit anyone"?)
Have you tried lowering settings in the games?
Also, on gta:sa with ur desktop start it, then once you are in game, go to task manager (alt+ctrl+del) and right click gta:sa.exe under processes and click on affinity - make sure it is set for all four - mine never does this automatically.

With TF2 under options, and video-advanced, check that "multicore rendering" is enabled - it might help.

lol i always had like 80-120 fps when i had XP 32 bit.

now that i have w7 64 bit GTA SA goes down to like 40 fps...... everything else runs completly awesome.

maybe its the new samp version.. dont know.

however.. im pretty sure that samp runs much better on XP than on w7.

@bike - you have opened task manager after the game has started and right clicked gta.sa.exe under processors, affinity and chose all cores, right?
