Question about video cards.

So im running this video card:

PowerColor PCS+ HD5870 1GB GDDR5
And i saw on the website of the company i bought it from that it soon will be out of stock.

So i want to upgrade my PC soon again with another HD5870 but if that Powercolor version is out of stock by then would i still be able to put it in crossfire with a different version from lets say MSI or Asus ?

So the setup then would be for example

PowerColor PCS+ HD5870 1GB GDDR5
                         +
Asus EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5/V2 or Asus EAH5870/G/2DIS/1GD5/V2

Would that be possible ? Because of the different clock speeds etc etc they might run on.

If they make such a product they have to deliver features like cooling systems for a couple of years.
I even think the EU has a law for that, not sure though.

the thing is that the PCS+ version was overclocked by PowerColor so the 2 graphics cards have different clock rates therefore i suggest you to contact the PowerColor support and ask them if it will work without problems.

ATI provides no guarantee that crossfire will work unless two "IDENTICAL"(same manufacturer and exact model) graphics cards are used.

one of my ex class mates used RAM modules with different clock rates and the retard had to buy new ones every month because some ram modules died due to the different clockrates and he always replaced them with a NEW different one..

as i said: you better contact the support because the clockrates are different.

but i would search for a second PCS+ version on ebay or whatever because you will most likely lose the product guarantee if you use different graphics cards for crossfire (i guess so at least) and im not sure that it will work well for a long time..

Well i just saw some interesting stuff on the net.

I can actually run 2 different cards for example the 5870 will work real good with a 5970 since the 5970 is considered to be a 5870x2 basicly if i would have a setup like 5870+5970 It would be simply like running 3 HD5870's

I will need a new powersupply how ever... I might rig my old PSU to run on both Video cards and use another PSU to power the other components But thats just an idea ill probably buy a new 1000Watts PSU (not doing 850watts because that would stress the PSU to its max when using on long term)


Anyway You cant use a HD5870 with a HD5770 because they are not in the same 58xx series (the 5970 is an exception) You can only crossfire cards from above 56xx to the latest but they all have to be in the same series like 58xx, 59xx, 56xx, 57xx,

Just google crossfire 5870 + 5970 to get more information or just google crossfire.
