Upgrad My PC!
« on: February 08, 2013, 11:46:32 AM »
Ohai! It was a long time since I got 1 extra GB of RAM for my Adobe Flash projects..

Lately I started to consider some other upgrade. Basically I'm trying to choose between processor and graphics card.
Heres my PC specs: I know it's shit, but I don't need much for things I do with it (like pr0n, games, flash, etc.) I work for bills and food, so PC is not my priority. DONT JUDGE MEEEE!!!

Windows 7 Ultimate
Pentium(R) Dual Core E5400 @ 2.70GHz 2.70GHz
3.00 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce N210

So, what should I update this year, graphics or processor?

Yet he has decided to reply normally.

Wait another year and buy a complete new PC.

CPU is out dated beyond upgrading.
RAM is surely out dated. (i would recommend upgrading that to atleast 8Gbs nowadays.)
Graphics I dont even know where to begin on that one.

If you are wise you save up to about 400 or even 500 euro and look at AMD's APU's (CPU with intergrated graphics chip) together with a discreet video card or even an onboard graphics card on the motherboard that will work with the APU's intergrated graphics chip making it dual graphics. You will be able to play Skyim on high settings and even BF3 on extreme/ultra depending on resolution.

Adding another 0.1 GHz, 1GB ram and a new graphics card would totally suffice for NFS Most Wanted at lowest settings. Just saying.

However it would be a good idea to buy a fully new one, (whenever pr0n starts being in HD 2048p you'll need it anyway).

However in my opinion 4GB ram totally are enough if you're just gaming, (except you try to play Death Rally 2012) also i myself wouldn't consider getting integrated solutions, because it's not really efficient to upgrade or replace them, however this might only be mho.
It might be an idea to look out for one with SSD's, i tested a double raid of these at a friend's, and they work pretty awesomely. When the support and the sturdiness of those improves any time soon, get those. The future speaks SSD.

Err.. buying new PC is something I wanted to avoid. Upgrading cpu+graphics+ram also.

I can run every game at low settings, at least, and that's fine with me. I can also play HD pr0n normally, whether online or downloaded. Basically I just want to boost few FPS on some games I already play. Like; GTA San Andreas @ max settings @ max fps, APB: Reloaded @ min settings @ 20-35 fps. If I had 500 € saved for PC's I wouldn't ask for opinions. I'm looking for some upgrade for up to 100€, maybe.

I'm also happy with my RAM. Upgraded from 2GB to 3GB last year when my Adobe Flash projects started to eat whole 2GB's.

So.. CPU or Graphics?

Get an extra GB of ram plus a graphics card. I would suggest upgrading both of them, if possible. What's your budget?

He does not want to upgrade his RAM. He wants to either upgrade his graphics or CPU.

Your CPU is still pretty good considering what you want to do with your PC. So i would suggest buying a graphics upgrade.

Offtopic: Ive finally got the dualcore PC working again. Now im going to build a server out of it :D. Damn lucky i could fix those pins on the processor!!.

Yes. This is what I was looking for.. so processor is that much outdated? :-[
I used to work with PC's mechanics and OS's in my free time and I was paid to do that. 2 years later, I'm a n00b. Damn u tech!

lolpls, I really don't need RAM, as I said. But yes, would be great to upgrade all 3 parts. And my budget is called 'Lucky'. :D

Offtopic: I got a server somewhere also, I think the Power Supply Unit died. It's about 10 years old, but it was pretty good with some games. Is it worth it to fix those things? In a way of bringing it back to life, at least to surf the net and play Flight Simulators?

Its possible to upgrade it but honestly i would just go for a new motherboard and CPU depending on the typ of RAM you got. DDR2 or DDR3.. and the speed it has.

Well im mainly doing it to get a headstart at school on a few certain things. But yea it totally depends on what the specifications are of that server to see if its worth it to repair it or if its beyond repair. Im actually struggling to flash the bios on my server. Using UBCD but ill get there im not going to give up since i want this server to run so badly. Reason im trying to flash the bios is to try and repair the LAN port on the back since its not working anymore. Drivers didnt do the trick so flashing bios might be an option.

Anyway if u need more help let me know. Hardware stuff can be a bitch.
