Just because your Graphics card has 1 gig doesnt mean its good. Some 512mb cards would out perform your card nightmare. Its all about the clocking speed, processing speed etc etc. The 1 gig just stands for how much buffer it has.

Mobo support for DDR3 ? lol thats just for RAM not for video card. Video card has onboard Ram which got nothing to do with Mobo Ram or the DDR3 or 2 versions. My Mobo supports DDR3 aswell but my Video card is a GDDR5 so yea..

RAM of your PC Nightmare:

Installed Size 6.0 GB / 16.0 GB (max)
Technology DDR2 SDRAM
Memory Speed 800.0 MHz
Memory Specification Compliance PC2-6400
Form Factor DIMM 240-pin

Your mobo Specs:

M2N78-LA (Violet)
Figure 1: Motherboard top view
Image of motherboard
Manufacturer: Pegatron
Form factor: microATX - 24.4 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.4 cm (9.6 inches)
Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 9100
Memory sockets: 4 x DDR2
Front side bus speeds: 5200MT/s (5.2 GT/s)
Processor socket: AM2+
Expansion Slots:
PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card
PCI Express x1 slots

Your mobo only supports DDR2 Ram. NOT DDR3 like mon3y said.

Upgrading this PC is pretty useless, seeing you would have to upgrade, PSU, GFX card, RAM, Mobo  except your CPU that one u dont have to upgrade but its pretty outdated aswell seeing as its a AM2 socket. Dont know if it supports AM3 since it says AM2+ but i doubt it. I would also upgrade from microATX to a ATX size motherboard. Gives you more space to work around with.

what are you talking? his ram, mobo and CPU are just fine for GTA IV. all he needs is a better graphics card and it should run fluently.

upgrading single components never is useless because you can always keep them if you decide to upgrade other hardware too.

also the socket has nothing to do with POWAR. its just the bracket for the fucking cooler.

buy a new graphics card like ati 5750 or 5770.

His PC is getting outdated fast you noob. DDR2 is going out of stock soon since DDR3 arrived Same goes for the AM2 socket. Like i said upgrading this piece of junk is hardly worth it unless u plan on playing crappy games for the next couple years. And for your information the 5770 aint that good a card same goes for 5750. Just invest a little more and get the 5870 or a good GTX card from Nvidia.

Do yourself a fuckin favour Bikedriver and check the components on his PC for developing/delivery dates you will see some of those parts are already 2 yrs old if not longer. Investing abit more money could give u a PC that would last you atleast 4 years.

there is no point in buying a complete new PC just because it gets "outdated". if he is not satisfied with only a new graphics card then he still can buy the other stuff later. i didnt tell him to buy new DDR2 ram's, i only told him to buy a new graphics card which should be enough to fix up his lag in GTA IV. you are the one who is telling him to just throw his PC away and to buy a completly new one just because the hardware is 2 years old.

where is the point in buying a complete new PC if he gets what he wants with only a new graphics card?
you advising him to buy a 5870 is another proof that you are the one who is talking crap. ati 6000 cards cost less and perform better. the problem is that there is no really cheap 6000. it starts with 150-200 bucks. a 5770 is much cheaper and can do GTA IV on very high with 50 FPS if you play at a lower resolution.

ok this is getting out of hand, so lets find something out.

Nightmare how much are you willing to pay on a gfx card? No point us saying "Get a an ati 6000series or a nvidia gtx400series" if you can not afford it.

and for a new gfx card u will need to update the PSU - most take 500Wmin and some more.
Some friendly advice: if you do upgrade your gfx carda and PSU get about 100-200W more than u need. That way, in the future it will continue to run gfx card and the pc and will have some buffer built into it. Otherwise, if you get the minimum each time you want a new gfx card/CPU/etc you will have to upgrade the PSU again.

Also, if you can get on IRC, and ask about in #lw chan about this. Dugi, carol, ben, etc will all give advice about gfx card, cpu, etc if you can find em (they hide sometimes cus they shy) but they do really know there stuff.

As you may get a new gfx card but your CPU may bottleneck it, which would be a waste of money. However, i am not good on CPU's and bottlenecks so someone with more knowledge than me would be good, hence IRC.

Yea you can find me on IRC most the time Nightmare :D

But all in all since your PC is kinda getting out dated it would be better if you just saved up a little more money and just buy a complete new PC, And even better yet would be a self build PC so that you got all the stuff you want and not some extra worthless junk you wouldnt need.

Between 300 - 400 euro = Low end PC
Between 400 - 1000 euro = Mid end PC
Between 1000 -  -- euro = high end PC

These are just estimated prices ofcourse it could be different in your country. But then atleast you know what you can expect for the amount of money you are willing to spend.
