[...] Take this track now, melodic beauty but would you like to hear it in a club? [...]
Honestly, yes.
Even though this particular tune you picked there is above average
"happyhappyjoyjoy" / "cheesy" (not a bad thing in this case don't worry.. about to download, ha), but I for one certainly would dance to most of the (liquid) stuff I post/-ed here.
I'd rather blame the DJs and big parts of the audience.
DJs because they're trying to go the easy way. Neurofunk (think Noisia, Phace) is much more based around a very dominant percussion, often using a more
"punchy" bassline instead of
"rolling". A little bit like cloning Phil Collins on crack 3 times. Whereas Liquid usually relies much more on (more or less complex) synthesizer patterns, harmonies and melodies combined with an often
"rolling" and steady bass. Not to forget the vocals (despite me giving a flying fart about them mostly). Easy to tell which of these 2 subgenres is easier to mix on the fly.
The majority of the audience because they're young, wild and filled with energy. Therefore go nuts on pretty much anything the guy on the stage is dropping. Can't really blame them for that though, I guess. Once upon a time.. I was less old too.
And look at guys like Netsky who's playing an
"awful" lot of his own stuff (read: finest liquid to my ears) in his sets, yet he's selling out clubs. And I'm sure all the (young) heads would dance to it, if there was enough room to do so.
Well, maybe one day I find some club / lounge playing some uplifting liquid once a month or so here. Maybe I should stop visiting the same 4-5 clubs and explore some new ones. Maybe DnB will become less popular again any time soon, so it would be possible to see international DJ imports again without being squashed in by a rabid horde of teenagers. Maybe I convert to classic music.
Naaaaawwwwww!
Finishing my post with 2 fresh tunes, to do justice to both of these subgenres..
