Mate, it was just the same with me. Listened only Metallica, sometimes Guns & Roses, Slayer... never listened to something harder. These metalcore bands will never get the glory of Metallica, for example :) But I got addicted to it and can't stop listen to it now... this inspires me a lot. Who knows, maybe one day I'll start listen Black Metal (lol, please God, I don't want this to happen PLS !! ) :D :D

I don't think anyone can take Metallica's throne anytime soon... Altough for me they are few steps behind of Iron Maiden, which is the greatest band of all time. But i don't see they are in danger on top of their business :P

If what you're afraid of eventually happens, make sure you start with Mayhem >:D

Try this:

eheh good old Stratovarius song, when the guitarist was also at the vocals.
I've always loved this song and i've always wondered if that shout at 5:10 is real or manipulated, cause hitting such extremely high note for 10 seconds is nearly impossible o.O

watching your avatar i'd suggest this one instead:

gotta love that drum rolling at 2:07 :))
Rust in peace!! obviously it's my favorite album of megadeth ;D

btw, i had some doubts about his scream. i know that is extremely high note but to be honest i don't care if it's real or manipulated because it's really fucking epic.

Talking about stratovarius, did you hear this one? Tolkki as vocals lmL

Pantera is/was the 'heaviest' heavy metal band ever imo. Vulgar is my fav. album of theirs,

Dime was truly one of the all time greats, he made that band.

I listened Nevermore before but they actually didn't sound like its my type but i might give it a shot again.

I was lucky enough to see Sepultura live here :P Those guys are insane and living legends.

Great song from the recent Stratovarius' albums. I often listen to this, glad to see there are people doing the same!

Talking about "recent" Stratovarius songs, I relaunch with:

Deep Unknown
! No longer available

Under flaming skies
! No longer available
and another great ballad like they usually compose, which i higly recommend to listen to (dat guitar solo starting at 1:43 :Q_ ):

Emancipation Suite Pt. 2

These songs from stratovarius are for having a break time lol, honestly i don't like at its new albums. Just some of their songs like Unbreakable of Infernal Maze.

This one is one of my favorite songs from the old stratovarius lmL

Sure thing, the first songs are great, but that was a totally different sound, until came Kotipelto at vocals and they adopted the classic Stratovarius sound which is more based on the "speed"

Anyways Future Shock rocks  8)

I also love Madness strikes at midnight, Hills have eyes and Dreamspace from that period (but also the others are good)
