Changing Win7 version

Ah yes..oke. When upgrading 7. Setup is very nab oriented process,so you will be asked what you want to do with older version. On upgrade,files and stuff normaly stay where your current Windows folder is. Only will be renamed to "Windows.old". So..when you uograde,setup will ask you if you want to install new/fresh copy of 7 or upgrade you current. Usualy ugrading windows does NOT delete your files. There are 2 options: It will move your files to "Windows.old" or will not affect your current files at all..but will only upgrade Windows files aka System32 folder and other stuff. Im not rly shur what will it do becouse I never upgraded 7 to 7 or XP to XP.. I did only XP to 7 upgrade(XP files and docs were moved to "Windows.old")

Anyhow.. You will be asked what you want to do with your current files. So its up to you. One bad move can delete everything so be careful. And GL!
ps. Upgrade with your current Windows running,not "Boot From DVD" thing..its much easier.

i've a simple question
i already installed win7 the home premium version and somewho advised me to get the ultimate ver!
so my question is
WILL I LOSE MY FILES/GAMES/ANYTHING which i aready have , if i install new version?
and should i remove the home premium ver to get the ultimate!!? or it'll overwrite itself!

Reinstalling to a new verison will remove documents pic etc which most normal people have them located in C:\Users\[usernamehere]\.  just back up the folder with your windows account name. Then after your done reinstalling you can just copy all the files and folders in the folder you backed up in the new user account folder. Now i have a extra HD in my computer that is for nothing but backs up so once im done reinstall i just drag and drop and i have all my files back. you cant back up programs due to reg keys. personly i use windows pro because im pro like that.

oke let me try to explain it again..in more easier way.

When UPGRADING windows. -All your current WINDOWS folder stuff(Documents and settings,Program files..etc) will be moved to WINDOWS.OLD folder.
So you WILL NOT loose your stuff that are now located within your current windows installation.

BUT! There is one thing you should know. -Even if your files,programs,games will NOT be deleted(but moved)
You might not be able to play some games or run some programs with your new Windows.

Just backup all of the files you want to save. Thats your safest bet. Just make room for it. Go through the 40gig worth of files and delete what u dont want anymore than backup that stuff you have left over.

Honestly if its just 40gig why not get a cheap HDD for like 30 bucks those usually are about 160gig or so. Your making it urself real difficult like this and risky. Plus the benefit of this is youll get a clean install instead of a upgraded one which might get corrupted (old registrys staying inplace etc etc you know those HKEY registry lines) I usually just reinstall windows every 3 or 4 months. I know KmanN does it once a month or so. Its quick and save.

Right now ive still got my OS on a 160gig HDD. And a 500gig for basicly everything else. Recently i bought a 2TB hdd for 60 euro. So the 160gig will become basicly obsolete since ill probably replace that with a 40gig SSD drive in the near future. The 500gig one will serve as a Steam games HDD and the 2TB for well other stuff programs movies downloads etc etc. I wont even put them in Raid but i might put the 500 and 160 in Raid dont know yet.


Anyway on topic: Get a cheap ass HDD for a few bucks put ur files on there then format ur hdd and put a clean install of windows on it. You probably have an old PC somewhere or old pc from a friend who has a HDD left in it and u could use that instead if it has enough room on it.

Partion your HD and then copy everything over from it, onto the other portion, and then you can still have your games with a new windows 7 version. Simple as that.

im going to buy a flash usb to get my important files in it , and games will be removed and i'll download them again , the current windows HP will be removed and i'll intsall the ultimate without any upgrade! i see it the simple and the best way!
