GTA:SA visual config. issue.
« on: July 14, 2011, 07:44:47 PM »
Hello people, I have a question for you, hope it can be solved:

I have this pc setup:

Core2duo 2.53Ghz
GF8500gt
2gb DDR2
and a 19" 1440x900 display.

Some how, playing 1440x900 x32 doesn't look good, it looks kinda laggy. And using the other x16bit config look way too dark.
Any tip on the best visual configuration I could have?. I want the game to have flow movements.

if you use windows 7 then always assign all CPU cores to the game after you started it.

the game should normally not lag on that comp..

My bad I forgot about the OS.

I'm using winXP SP2 (I know, it's old). But I was using the same pc configuration the last time I had gta (a few years ago) and I remember the game running as good as while playing LW online (I was told sa-mp use less resources that's why the nice game physics/speed).

Reduce the visual details level, most of these effects doesn't work anyways in samp (like motion blur or grass or plants).
try to put out Mip mapping.
and if all this doesn't help try another/lower resolution.

On XP SP2, try to assign the game only to one of ur cores.

Where's is the Motion blur/grass disabling option?

Do you know how to assign one core to the game only?

Options->Display Setup->Advanced->Visual FX Quality
try setting it to lowest, maybe it helps, then you can try test higher options for better Visual FX.

There's a way doing that with the Task Manager, but i'd suggest you get EasyToolz.

Get it here: http://www.computerbild.de/download/EasyToolz-1586033.html?dl=1
The site is in german, just click the big blue 'Download starten'-button.

The tool is partly in english, partly in german, once startet, there's a green-yellow bar in your system tray, indicating your processor usage.
Right click the symbol and search the drop list for 'CPU Affinity'.

Click on 'Hinzufügen' /  'Add' to add a new programm, search for your gta_sa.exe, click open, and tick the 'CPU' checkbox, then the core u want it to assign to, uncheck all other CPU's. Also check 'Automatische CPU Verteilung' / 'Automatic CPU allocation' and click OK.

Your game is now assigned to one core.

EasyToolz reminds that changes, so right click the tray symbol and click on 'Autostart' to let it start automatically with windows, so you don't need to do that changes everytime.

Works perfect for me, hope it helps you too.

Curiously why would you do that? Use all cores means the process is spread out and one core is not over worked.

Also task manager to set affinity is easier:
CTRL_ALT_DEL, processes tab, find "gta.sa.exe", right click -set affinity, set to all/one/etc and ok. Simples!

because some older games dont work properly on multiple-CPU-systems.
task manager doesnt save these changes, you have to manually set it every time u start the process again.
