It looks like its an entirely re imagined version of San Andreas (or Los Santos at the minimum). Just from the trailer we can see it isn't an exact remake of the GTA:SA map. Don't forget that even though the trailer only showed Los Santos, Rockstar are notorious for leaving people to speculate, the first GTA SA trailer only showed LS too. And we can tell from the trailer that it does contain some countryside elements such as Mt Chiliad and various highways that are (presumably) leading to other cities.

I'm sure the later trailers that come will reveal more and more. Either way, it's going to be awesome!

lol

well this is the first trailer. keep in mind every gta since gta3 has had multiple trailers. at this point I just hope the map is vast, san fierro, and las venturas, and all the irrelevant shit/redneck towns in between.

but from the looks of it, it seems like the gameplay will be exactly the same or similar to gta4, which is unfortunate honestly. wikipedia also confirms the game uses the rage engine, used in gta4

How do you know the gameplay will be the same? So far we havn't seen any gameplay so there is no way of knowing   ;)

I hope there will be more side missions (police, fire, ambulance, taxi, etc) as they were lacking in GTA IV, and extras such as minigames, rampages, and hidden packages are fun too. It would also be nice to see a return of some of the customization options from GTA SA such as having more clothing available to buy and being able to modify vehicles and buy houses (maybe business's too?)

On the topic of handling, I prefer the handling in GTA IV as i found it quite easy to drive cars without crashing into everything as was common in previous GTA games. I certainly prefer realistic type handling to the handling in games like Saints Row.

The fact that its Los Santos alone. And as you say highways leading to other places... I think its save to say that it will be an entire re-map of San Andreas. I mean why would they show us Los Santos and fully knowing that the previous San Andreas consisted of 3 cities and country side and desert. They would only make us suspect that they would re-map the rest of the old San Andreas aswell. If they didnt then alot of people would be dissappointed (me included)

Plus the fact that they are known to re-map, re-make and re-imagine their games. Anyway we got GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas. Then we got GTA IV which was a remap of GTA 3 they have skipped vice city now and the only reason i can think of as to why they skipped it is because people would expect more after GTA IV so they jumped ahead to remapping San Andreas. I Do hope the handling would be a little bit better in the new GTA specially if the map will be as big or bigger than San Andreas originally was.

Well we can all speculate like Ez said or we can just wait and see what ever they might bring us :D

Well, I agree that the driving in GTA4 was good. Like in vice city/san andreas it seemed like all of the NPC vehicles on the road went so slow that they actually acted like obstacles, so you HAD to drive around them, sometimes being forced into running pedestrians over and such since the roads were "smaller" I guess. In GTA 4 you still had to drive around other cars, but the number of cars that were around were fewer, the roads seemed larger, and the handling of the vehicles were better in general.

When you say there's no way of knowing if the gameplay will be the same as GTA4, I kind of disagree because if you look at the way the pedestrians are walking in the GTA5 trailer, they pretty much carry themselves in a similar way to gta4. If you compare GTA4 to Red Dead Redemption, gameplay wise, like basic movement and shit, it's virtually the same. The fast paced movement/running in san andreas was only really possible because that game wasn't intended to be realistic, nor was it really possible at that time. You had these blocky/polygonish characters running around with jerky animations, so naturally the gameplay might feel "faster" or more "fun".

Like when playing the gta4 multiplayer, I really disliked it mainly because, there wasn't really any room to be creative with your movement. You could mess up an input while running/turning and have your character "freeze" up basically because oh look now it's doing the animation where he stops running, meanwhile im getting shot and I literally cant move.

Oh and the aiming and accuracy of the weapons were ass.

I also think I should point out, one of the reasons why vice city and san andreas were so special, was because the games WEREN'T realistic. Like those games were like one giant parody of reality, the unrealistic gameplay/graphics made it even more fun/humorous.

How are you going to have a game as realistic as GTA4, but have the same kind of humor on the radio stations, and brand parodies and shit from the older gtas in the same game without somehow contradicting the intended theme?

GTA4 was weird honestly.

it looks absolutely similar to GTA IV. the world is awesome now, that seems to be the only difference.

 ???

are you talking about GTA 2 or wat?

its seems that you have played a different version of GTA IV..
