Weird problem :S
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:18:35 PM »
Okay i recently found this out.

Whenever my Dad wants to use the laptop i have to shut down my PC cause else we get an Internet IP conflict so or the Internet on the laptop won't work or the PC and sometimes both won't work so I've made a big search for Virusses on my PC and found a few, i removed them and that night it seriously worked i was like finally, but a few days after it didn't work any more + i found out a new problem.

Whenever we get a call or we call someone else our Internet falls out for like 5 minutes and i think this problem also has something to do with the laptop problem, I think along time ago [sLK]Thug had this problem too, and it was a problem from KPN (Mobile/PC/TV Internet service) I'm not sure thought and i'd like to fix it soon and with that part i need your help.

pls post your type of internet connection (normal phone modem/isdn/dsl/else)
yes two PC on same router can lead to ip conflicts, setting different ips will solve this normally.
Also shouldn't occur when automatic ip assignment is ON.

Check out:
i had a somehow rather similar problem in the past:
+Internet didnt work on my PC, while it did work on another
+while it worked on my machine, it didnt on another
+sometimes both worked
+sometimes none
Btw: router showed perfect dsl connection state, internet was perfectly connected from what my pc said (connected with 100Mbts, and so one...)
-automatic ip assignment sometimes didnt work
-connection graph showed NO input (download) signal
-all internet applications using http or html protocols wont work
-sometimes programs using udp connections still worked, eg. sa-mp or TS
-so it was kinda weird, sometimes i had to tell ppl on samp, that i cant talk on xfire, because my internet doesnt work ._.

If you can find any of these points in your problem let me know,
maybe we could search for a good solution together...

oh btw i recently solved that kinda (lol), cuz i phoned my isp and complained that i will change my provider if this keeps happening, since then it worked pretty good XD

oh and i asked some fella from my university, and his opinion was that some broken electronic device somewhere in my house or at my neighbour's cold cause interferrence. well -.- i dont really know if i should believe that XD

could try manually setting ip's (isnt that hard). Connect via automatic, find out ips and sub-net/masks, then (doing this from memory of over 5 years ago so it may have changed. I actually did this for reasons other than those stated, but it worked), set up each comp for manual ip and type it in, but always change the last digit of each. That might solve the confilct issue.

Check there are no other devices interferring. We had a wireless cctv camera, on 2.5ghz. Meant i could connect (sometimes) but others could not. Switched it off, and boom instant working.

The call thing (make/recieve a call and it drops) sounds like your using asdl (over the phone internet, but not dial up) and the signals have not been split correctly. (Via a signal splitter you should have and plug into the phone line). If you have boardband (via fibreoptic, so no need for phone line use) then the broadband and phone signals are getting crossed and u need an engineer.

Other than this i would ring up you isp provider and gt it sorted.

Aight for the Phone thingy, il call them up but the IP conflict,

Quote
I think my laptop has just one number different like,  PC has 111,111,111
laptop has 111,111,112 that was when both where manually configured but now the IP from my PC is automatic.

So it's not completely the same, and i got most of the problems enzo has too.

So a guy who does this as a job set it all up for you, but it doesn't work properly? Was he from KPN? If yes: go ahead and call KPN. If he wasn't from KPN and just a friend of the family who actually has some knowledge about this all, call him and explain him the situation. If you want to get your car fixed, and you get it back but it is still broken, you also go back to the garage, right?

If you only have a bit of knowledge best to ring someone. I learnt most of the computer stuff from (a) people on IRC (thanks all) and (b) watching professionals (seriously, i would watch and ask em questions when the come around). So now i know how to set you and move my modem/router because of watching a VM guy once. I know how to split the signal and how to do some other odd stuff.

The IP stuff i leant for a use which i needed long long ago (i needed to port forward on a a specific address, but not all of them, so learnt to set them manually and port forward for that ip only!). Also, computer ips are normally different (duh) but manually setting them normally requires knowing one computers ip mask (i.e. 192.165.0.0 which the router/modem will set automatically) and then for each computer changing the last digit (i.e. 192.165.0.1) but actual IP's are different, as that's the router setting an ip address to each computer to recognise it and allow it to connect, not an actual ip address....confusing and i learnt that from the interwebs lol

Now back on topic....does your modem/router at any point go in to the phone socket on the wall (im guessing it the same as here for ADSL). Looked on KPN website. Shows an ADSL set up (as far as i can tell from the pics). The phone line being interupted is the spitter not working correctly. Check this is set up correct, or buy a new one and test it. This might (i stress MIGHT) also be the problem of the IP conflict. If the splitter is not correct/broken then it might only allow one person on the net at a time (my old router did). Get a spiltter/check yours is working and it might work.
(BTW a splitter should look something like this http://www.manufacturer.com/cimages/product/www.alibaba.com/0522/h/ADSL_Splitter.jpg )

Hope this helps.

solved

i let my isp upgrade my line from dsl 6.000 to dsl 16.000, now it works, however.

anyways we had someone of the isp's team here some months ago, he left after 10 minutes with the statement that our phone line in the house (from phone socket to splitter) was broken. Btw he let us pay for 30 minutes and 40 km drive, although he was from my neighbourhood.

We still have the same phone line cable... and it works.

maybe dsl 16.000 is powerful enough to overtake the neighbour's microwave XD
