L.A. Noire -50%
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:45:08 AM »
L.A. Noire is now 50% off on steam.

Has anyone played this? I always wanted to play it but it was like 50 euro's so didn't want to spend that much money on it. Now it's just 15 euro's.

Reviews are welcome here!

I bought it and I am selling my Xbox copy. It was OK, never finished it mainly because I didn't have the time to finish it.

Am playing it currently. Believe me, this game fucking rocks. Its like Mafia but just that you are the cop not a criminal.  :P
There are some uber new things in it, like reading facial expressions of witnesses, accusing them of lying based on evidence collected etc etc, which helps you in solving case.

Keep one thing in mind, there are some issues running it. I mean the game was by default capped at 30fps. Plus, its requirements are pretty much like GTA4. There are some tweaks and patches out there which removes the 30fps cap, so that you can get more fps. But those patches etc work only for default version of game which can not use DX11.
If you update the game you wont be able to use those fps limit removal patches etc, but you will be able to run it on DX11.

Personally, i would recommend not using those patches, as i have tried them. Just update your game, run it on DX11 without any fps patches, and use a commandline (like we can do in GTA4). There are many commandline for LA Noire out there, just try and see whichever suits you for some fps boost, if you need it.

The facial animations are amazing, you can actually recognize the actors that the characters are modelled after*. I am really bad at reading the expressions though. Hopefully now that I own it on PC I will play it until the end since I use my PC more than Xbox.

* Except one scene where I thought one of the characters was Jon Cryer (Alan Harper) from Two and a Half Men! Apparently the actor was not him, although I do wonder if the likeness to him was on purpose.

I sometimes had the urge to play a detective in the 50s, but I got bored real quick as one mission could take up to a few hours to get it right.
The game is quite nice though, for 15 euros it's surely worth it!

Well, that's why I was a little hesitant. I've never played such a dated game. I've seen a friend of mine play Mafia, but wasn't really impressed. But, I also thought the same about Skyrim, and I was addicted to that so... :p
