Laptop decision
« on: August 09, 2012, 12:44:12 PM »
Ok i got a decision to make for school concerning a laptop and i got no more than 1000 euro to spend on it.

CPU: Quadcore (i7 or something)
Videocard: Atleast 1Gb or more
RAM: 6gb or more
Screen: 16 inch or more, non-glare (no mirror effect)
Resolution: 1920x1080

I had seen a laptop with a GT630m that had a 17,3inch screen and also a laptop with a GT650m that had a 15,6inch screen both at 1920x1080. And both had the same CPU, RAM and both where 929 euro. If anyone can help me find the best laptop out there would be great as i will need it a lot like running virtual machines do some heavy graphic stuff etc etc (besides gaming).

I have never had a laptop myself.

Unless you actually need awesome performance in a portable device then reconsider a powerful laptop. The idea sounds good but they're bloody annoying... main issues are that they are heavy, slow to boot, awkward to whip out and can have bad battery life.. especially if you are after performance.

I need a laptop for school its mandatory otherwise they wont allow me to participate in the education. They said minimum of 1GB video, minimum of 6GB RAM, And i personally would like quadcore.

I would rather have thought of a less expensive desktop and a laptop. You get a lot more for your money by buying a desktop for far less money, so you may want to buy an affordable laptop for school and your studies. Just a suggestion.

Like i said i need a powerful laptop for school (it is mandatory cant start school without it) as we will use it at school for running virtual machines and graphic intensive programs.

ASUS G75VW 17.3" Full HD
GeForce GTX670 3GB,Core i7-3610QM,8GB RAM,750GB SSD/HDD,DVD±RW,BT,W7H.

Would have been a very good choice. Lots of power and well-known quality from Asus.

What website did you find that on? because most i see with a similar setup from Asus are GT630m or GT650m not GTX670

Hmm. Where do you wanna buy it from?
Found it on a Swedish website. Sweden is an expensive country, so expect that it is a bit cheaper elsewhere. Look on eBay for example. It comes with the GTX660 as well, but perform poorly compared to 670

Difficult for me to find such sites. Is it necessary to buy from eBay for you?

lenovo Y580 is the best choice out there right now. but you will have to buy the 1.100€ version because only that one offers full HD.

Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (up to3,3 GHz), Quad-Core
39,6 cm (15") Full HD 16:9 LED Display, Webcam
8 GB RAM, 1 TB + 32 GB SSD, Blu-ray Disc ROM/DVD burner
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M (2048 MB), HDMI, USB 3.0, WLAN-n, BT
BikeDriv:))))

Haha blwelrwelrt, I registered here earlier :P

Yea i found that one as well this morning and i am already leaning towards the lenovo one.
The one i found has a 64gb SSD and 1TB HDD at 5400 RPM (i would rather have 7200 but considering it has a SSD im alright with that) And i like that it has a bluray player as well. And it has the Windows 8 ready thingy for 14,99 so ill probably upgrade to that as well.

Edit:
Theres one downside the screen is not matte or non-glare. Itll have this mirror effect and you will have trouble if you sit outside and use it. But that is just a minor downside.

i haz the 1100 monies y580.

i ripped out the SSD and HDD and put in a 256GB ssd. now you dont hear it anymore.. seriously.. it makes no sound.

the 32gb ssd is crap and the OS is NOT on the ssd yet on the really slow HDD. its a hard decision. also there is no second HDD slot. meh.
