New server!

Hello!

So after collecting some money from donations I've had a look around dedicated server... The server I'm thinking of getting is:

Intel Q6600 Quad Core
64Bit
8GB DDR2 RAM
250GB HDD (smaller than previous post - cheaper!)
1Gb/s uncapped (I've tested it on someone else's identical server and it was about 500MBit in reality)

Just thought I'd let you know what you're money is going towards! The server will be in the same datacentre as the current one, so your latency shouldn't be affected, but the faster processor will help with stability (hopefully - often the current one crashes when it's maxing out the CPU). The increased RAM should also boost performance.

For the record, our current server is:

Intel Pentium E2180 @ 2.00GHz
1GB DDR2 RAM
750GB HDD
100Mb/s uncapped (max I've achieved on it was 98.5Mbit, basically the whole 100Mbit)

I'm doubtful you need a server which such high performance for LW tbh... it runs on what we got now but crashes when it's 150 players +.

I suggest we try a server which is double the performance of the current one and see how things go from there, don't spend money when you don't need to...

I agree somewhat, specially since they cant guarantee that they will have enough funds to cover the price.
A 1GB/s uncapped pipe hopefully should decrease some parts of the lag, though.
I heard that the only reason it crashes is because the server's CPU usage increases and performance slows down eventually to the point where it crashes. Might be wrong, but hopefully this new server is great!

LW's isnt the only thing running on this server.

Even more reason for us to not need the highest performance server, as Littlewhitey's will be the only thing running on it...
